An abandoned cart is the best practice to send your email before your customer orders the product they "abandoned".
This is typically utilized in cases where users add a product to an online shopping cart on an e-commerce website but do not complete their purchase. Users may abandon because they aren’t ready to buy. Rather, customers are shopping around and comparing costs while using their basket more as a "wish list". So it's frequently all it takes to direct customers to finish checking out is to set up automatic and customized email alerts that remind them they have things in their basket.
Abandoned cart examples:
To learn more about Abandoned Carts from our separate article, kindly refer to the button below:
The customer places an item in their online shopping cart on an e-commerce site but doesn't finish the transaction, as customers who aren't ready to buy may abandon it. So they are using their cart as more of a "wish list" as they shop around and compare prices.
In order to generate an abandoned cart within an email template, it is necessary to have a list of Merge tags, which are dynamic variables responsible for transferring the relevant products to the email template. These Merge tags must be related to your ESP (email service provider) used for sending email campaigns. To get a list of the required Merge tags, kindly reach out to your ESP's support team.
How to create an abandoned cart within Stripo?
Prepare a list of merge tags related to your ESP:
Let's consider an example:
This merge tag pertains to the logo/image of the product: {%shopping_cart_items_logo%}
;
This merge tag is related to the product title: {%shopping_cart_title%}
;
This merge tag used for the product description: {%shopping_description%}
;
This merge tag is related to the product price:{{total_price}}
;
This merge tag pertains to the button URL of the product: {%shopping_cart_URL%}
;
Create a skeleton design of your abandoned cart:
In my example, I prepared merge tags for the image, title, description, price, and button URL.
That's why to build the abandoned cart container, I need to incorporate the following blocks:
- An image block to display the product image/logo;
- Three text blocks to include the product title, description, and price;
- A button block to provide the URL for the product.
Please remember to make the necessary adjustments to the styles of our cards:
Copy and paste the merge tags into the designated container:
To add the merge tag to the Image block, upload any image you want and replace its URL with the merge tag.
Then add other merge tags as text and paste the merge tag to the button link as Other protocol:
Please don't worry if you see "broken image" or merge tags instead of real content.
If you correctly applied your dynamic tags to blocks, your abandoned cart block will be displayed in the Stripo editor as shown above.
The real data will be applied and shown only after sending it from your ESP. The ESP will recognize its unique merge tags and replace them with real data related to each recipient.
Tricks:
To preserve your Merge tags for future use in other email templates, access the Project settings and save the required tags in the designated section:
Once added, they can be found in the Merge tag menu under the "Custom tags" title:
There are 2 additional ways to create the abandoned cart design:
1) using prebuilt Modules:
Our library consists of a considerable number of already prepared modules that our designers have thought to the smallest detail. Within these modules, you can easily locate pre-built product card modules and incorporate your merge tags into the block.
An example after adding merge tags to relevant places (text/image blocks and button URL)
2) using Prepared templates with already designed abandoned carts. You can find them under the "Type" category and select "Abandoned Cart".
There are different topics, such as clothes, techniques, and others.
Important to note: merge tags should be provided by the ESP and work with their environment. You can only add merge tags within Stripo and export an email template for future sending.
