The View Options in the Stripo editor let you control how your email content is displayed while you’re editing, making it easier to focus on specific aspects of your design. Whether you're working with different MIME types (HTML/AMPHTML), applying display conditions, hiding content for mobile or desktop, or using merge tags for personalization, the View Options help you preview and edit your email exactly the way you need. You can find these options by clicking the small dropdown arrow next to the mobile view icon in the top-right toolbar, where you’ll be able to toggle between different display settings depending on your current workflow.

Now that you know where to find the View Options and what they’re used for, let’s go through each setting in detail.

Show Hidden Blocks:

This setting allows you to toggle whether content blocks that are hidden on desktop or mobile are shown in the editor. When enabled, hidden blocks are revealed and visually marked, so you can view and edit them without needing to switch device previews:

When disabled, only the content meant for the currently selected device (desktop or mobile) is shown — just as your recipients will see it:

MIME Type:

This setting lets you choose which version of your email content to display in the editor: HTML, AMPHTML, or Both. AMPHTML supports interactive elements like carousels, accordions, and forms, while HTML is used to build fallback content for email clients that don’t support AMP. By selecting the appropriate MIME type, you can focus your editing on the version you’re currently working on.

If you’re designing an interactive email using AMP components, such as a product carousel or a feedback form, you can switch to AMPHTML view to focus on editing those dynamic elements:

If you’re preparing the fallback version that will be shown in clients that don’t support AMP, switch to HTML view to make sure it’s styled and functional:

Choosing Both can help you compare the two versions side by side and ensure they remain visually consistent:

Whether you select AMPHTML only or HTML only, all other elements of the template that are not explicitly marked with a specific MIME type ("Both type") will still be included.
This logic applies consistently to both preview and export modes - ensuring that in each case, you see a combination of your chosen format (AMPHTML or HTML) alongside all elements marked as "BOTH".

Display Conditions:

This setting allows you to preview your email content based on specific display conditions you've applied, such as recipient gender, location, age, or preferences. When editing an email with conditional content, this feature helps you visualize exactly what each segment of your audience will see based on the rules you've defined.

Suppose you're running a fashion campaign and have created different product cards — two for female recipients:

And the other two for male recipients:

After applying gender-based display conditions to these blocks, you can use the Display Conditions view option to switch between the views and see exactly how each version of the email will appear to the targeted audience, right inside the editor.

Merge Tag Display:

This setting controls how merge tags appear while you're editing your email. Merge tags are placeholders (like *|FNAME|*) that get replaced with actual subscriber data, such as first name, company name, or other personalized fields, when the email is sent. With this view option, you can choose to display merge tags in one of three formats.

1) The raw option shows the actual tag (e.g., *|FNAME|*):

2) The label option shows a readable label (e.g., First name):

3) The preview value shows a sample value that you specify while configuring a merge tag (e.g., Anna):

If you're designing a personalized welcome email that uses the recipient’s first name, you might want to set the view to Preview value to see how the greeting will appear in real life (e.g., Hi John!). This is helpful for spotting formatting or spacing issues early. On the other hand, if you're troubleshooting merge tag placement or logic, switching to Raw or Label makes it easier to identify which tag is used where.

Important note: In addition to the current view options, there is one more view option coming soon called "Theme Emulation". This will allow you to preview how your email appears in light or dark mode, helping you optimize your design for both themes, so stay tuned.
