View Options let you control how your email is displayed in the editor, without changing how it looks for recipients. Use them to switch between HTML and AMPHTML, preview display conditions, see merge tags as raw or preview values, and toggle dark mode. To open View Options, click the dropdown arrow next to the mobile view icon in the top-right toolbar.
Now that you know where to find the View Options and what they’re used for, let’s go through each setting in detail.
Show Hidden Elements:
This setting allows you to toggle whether content blocks that are hidden on desktop or mobile are shown in the editor. When enabled, hidden blocks are revealed and visually marked, so you can view and edit them without needing to switch device previews:
When disabled, only the content meant for the currently selected device (desktop or mobile) is shown — just as your recipients will see it:
Show Comment Pins:
Commenting in Stripo allows teams to collaborate directly within the editor by leaving feedback, replying to comments, resolving them, or mentioning teammates. This keeps discussions linked to the relevant parts of the email template, ensuring precise and actionable feedback.
The Show Comment Pins setting controls the visibility of comment pins in the editor. Comment pins mark where feedback or discussions have been left, making it easy to see comments, track feedback, and navigate directly to discussion points.
When pins are hidden, they are removed from view, allowing you to focus on editing your content without distractions.
Display Conditions:
This setting allows you to preview your email content based on specific display conditions you've applied, such as recipient gender, location, age, or preferences. When editing an email with conditional content, this feature helps you visualize exactly what each segment of your audience will see based on the rules you've defined.
Suppose you're running a fashion campaign and have created different product cards, two for female recipients:
And the other two for male recipients:
After applying gender-based display conditions to these blocks, you can use the Display Conditions view option to switch between the views and see exactly how each version of the email will appear to the targeted audience, right inside the editor.
MIME Type:
This setting lets you choose which version of your email content to display in the editor: HTML, AMPHTML, or Both. AMPHTML supports interactive elements like carousels, accordions, and forms, while HTML is used to build fallback content for email clients that don’t support AMP. By selecting the appropriate MIME type, you can focus your editing on the version you’re currently working on.
If you’re designing an interactive email using AMP components, such as a product carousel or a feedback form, you can switch to AMPHTML view to focus on editing those dynamic elements:
If you’re preparing the fallback version that will be shown in clients that don’t support AMP, switch to HTML view to make sure it’s styled and functional:
Choosing Both can help you compare the two versions side by side and ensure they remain visually consistent:
Whether you select AMPHTML only or HTML only, all other elements of the template that are not explicitly marked with a specific MIME type ("Both type") will still be included.
This logic applies consistently to both preview and export modes - ensuring that in each case, you see a combination of your chosen format (AMPHTML or HTML) alongside all elements marked as "BOTH".
Merge Tags:
This setting controls how merge tags appear while you're editing your email. Merge tags are placeholders (like *|FNAME|*) that get replaced with actual subscriber data, such as first name, company name, or other personalized fields, when the email is sent. With this view option, you can choose to display merge tags in one of three formats.
1) The raw option shows the actual tag (e.g., %FIRSTNAME|%):
2) The label option shows a readable label (e.g., First name):
3) The preview value shows a sample value that you specify while configuring a merge tag (e.g., Anna):
If you're designing a personalized welcome email that uses the recipient’s first name, you might want to set the view to Preview value to see how the greeting will appear in real life (e.g., Hi John!). This is helpful for spotting formatting or spacing issues early. On the other hand, if you're troubleshooting merge tag placement or logic, switching to Raw or Label makes it easier to identify which tag is used where.
Theme Emulation:
Theme Emulation lets you preview how your email looks in Light or Dark mode right inside the editor.
This helps you make sure your design looks great in both themes and is easy to read for all email services that support dark mode.
You can switch between Light and Dark using the "Theme Emulation" control in the "View Options" menu:
The change applies instantly, so you can quickly test both versions of your design.
