Let's imagine that you want to make a mailing of your template and automatically substitute data in it depending on the user to whom you will do the mailing. The merge tag will help you with this.
The merge tag is a piece of code specific to an email service provider that allows you to insert unique user data from your mailing list into emails. For emails created in the Stripo editor, you can add personalization tags (Merge tags), which allow you to add the name/surname/address and other customers' personal data individually.
How to insert the merge tag?
First of all, you should open the editor and click on the text block and navigate to the "Merge tag" tab;
After that, select a desired "Merge tag" from the settings panel.
Moreover, we created a list of the most common ESP services with their merge tags like MailChimp, GetResponse, eSputnik, etc, so after you exported an email to the system you use, merge tags are automatically replaced by the data stored in the database of the corresponding service that you can turn on in the "Projects" settings → "Merge tags" section.
Remind that personalization tags must be configured depending on the ESP provider you use to send emails.
How to insert the custom merge tag?
You can add custom merge tags if the email service you need is unavailable. To do this:
Open the "projects" settings and add the needed custom tags by clicking on the "plus" icon;
Once added, they can be found in the same menu where the rest are, under the "Mergetags" → "Custom" title;
Also, if you added lots of custom tags, you can use the merge tag search box to save your time in searching for the desired merge tag;
The "custom tags display" feature allows you to customize the appearance of merge tags in the editor;
Important note: We are already working on making the "Custom tags display" feature available to you soon.
