A communication protocol is a system of rules that allows two or more entities of a communications system to transmit information via any kind of variation of a physical quantity.
There is a large number of communication protocols, but the most popular among our users during email's creation are https://, mailto:, and tel:. The protocols are compatible with many mail clients and web interfaces of mail services.
